No Sunscreen or Sangria

No Sunscreen or Sangria

I wondered what did we do before sunscreen, medication, alcohol, cigarettes, nutritional information and the gym?

It is a complex question and that is because as we have evolved over many years so has the global life expectancy to the age of seventy and over. If we compare this to two hundred years ago when the average life expectancy from birth was a mere twenty-four years with almost one third of children dying before the age of five, tells us we are doing something right

The data shows us a high mortality rate in infants and children back then and this was most likely due to poor sanitation and lack of todays medicines which include vaccinations and antibiotics. I also believe it to be years and years of studies, hard work, research and discovery

Despite all the scaremongering we see today about diseases and early deaths we do have the research to help us with a healthy lifestyle and longevity, we all know when we eat to much or drink to much, we know when we have aches and pains from not doing any exercise and it's on us to do something about it not the doctor

If I imagine the cave man and woman, I see barefooted, tanned, muscular, meat eating beings who are hairy in all the right places. They have cowskins wrapped around their bits and pieces and those that lived until sixty exercised daily hunting for live food, medicated on sunshine and drank alcohol when mending a gaping wound

As much as I would like to go back to the cave days for a peek

... thank the Lord for the local Co-Op, Oh, and Gillette for the razor!
